KEXP Review for DGH's Audioasis appearance:
"Daniel G. Harmann is a folksy troubadour with a delightfully laconic voice
and a penchant for heartbreaking melodies. With the Trouble Starts, he's
still a heartbreaker but with a full-bodied, sweeping consonance underlining
his bittersweet poetry."
We hope to see you there

“…a very gratifying and certainly hypnotic meditation on woe." – Shawn Telford, Seattle PI
"Daniel G. Harmann's songs drift and ache, sad but uplifting. I'd say they're brave, but they're more subdued than that. –Trent Moorman, The Stranger

4/20/09 - "WE SING THE BODY ELECTRIC" AVAILABLE TOMORROW

Here's where you can pick it up:

Seattle)

Reviews:
"We Sing in Time is where the stars align for The Lonely Forest. The band
rides a catchy chorus to epic heights, all while hitting a sincere,
emotional note. By the end of the song, it becomes clear that the song's
refrain of 'in time the trees die and lights will fade' isn't about the
seasons. 'Let's send boys
overseas/To fight ghosts in the deserts/Instead of teaching them to give and
lead' the band cries in the chilling closing verse, lending an anguished
charge to the already compelling track and a highlight to a thoroughly
compelling album."
- Seattle Sound (4 1/2 out of 5 stars)
"As I listened to We Sing The Body Electric!, it became apparent that I was
hearing one of the best albums so far this year. Song after song reveals
rich, raw, sophisticated, emotional, party-ready and wonderfully crafted
music; there are no gimmicks or cookie cutter rock here. What worries me
about bands that are this good is what could happen to them if they become
too popular."
- Indie Rock Cafe
"..."We Sing In Time," gave me goosebumps. In a really, really good way.
...(The Lonely Forest) has written some very earnest, beautiful pop songs,
and the experience I had listening to "We Sing In Time," brought Jimmy Eat
World's very best qualities to mind."
- Seattle Weekly
"I feel like I've been anticipating this record for years now, so this seems
like another "finally!" moment. A great recording is all these guys need to
get the right kind of attention, and these first results are proving the
album worth the wait."
- Sound on the Sound
"The Lonely Forest craft songs from granite; residing in a halfway house
between Guided By Voices and The Hold Steady... the tracks present on 'We
Sing The Body Electric' are compelling, endearing and most importantly
pretty f*&%ing good."
- Subba-Cultcha

1/19/09 - MORE OREGON DONOR PRESS
Check out this new review for The Oregon Donor's "Somethings":
"The Oregon Donor has crafted a sound that they prefer to call "indie
punk," mixing in the more typical prog elements with a modern
twist.Their sound harkens back to early Dischord artists like Faraquet,
and the art-punk is influence evident in tracks like "Pointer Finger"
and "Patience Please." Keeping this sort of sound alive is admirable,
and The Oregon Donor's take on it is informed. This debut, as "nerdy" as
it sounds, proves that The Oregon Donor have all the necessary
ingredients to succeed in their genre and beyond."
- Redefine Magazine
"Somethings" available now on iTunes and AmazonMP3… check out the BBR Store and get a copy today!

Big thanks to both and everyone who voted on the TIG poll!
12/15/08 - TO THE WAVES PRESS
New review for To the Waves:
"
I can pretty much guess that the members of TO THE WAVES have music in
their collections from such bands as BY A THREAD, JAWBOX, and SEAWEED.
With a throwback to the guitar-driven, moody post punk/post-hardcore
melodic rock of the mid-to-late 90s, this self-titled release is both a
pleasure, and peculiar. Despite the smooth lead vocals of Jesse Fox
(former singer for POLECAT), the guitars and crisp drumming entirely
dominate the band's music. Surging distorted guitars, and mesmerizing
clean guitars tangle and light a fuse on songs like "Arrhythmia." and
"Bishop," while the straight-forward bombast of opener "Koda," and
standout, "Olympic Peaks," ice the listener with a serious, tempered
demeanor. Fox's demoted position in the mix of the recording is
frustrating, but not a deal-breaker. Notably, BOTCH's Dave Verellen
makes a guest vocal appearance on "Rule of Nines," growling his throat
blood red, and changing the direction of TO THE WAVES ever-so-slightly.
"The Angel's Share," is another standout, doling out the crunch and
finding a compelling groove between the rhythm section and Fox's stable
of hooks. Dated, but true to its influences, TO THE WAVES get the job
done."
- Paste Punk
12/1/08 - THE OREGON DONOR PRESS-O-RAMA
Check out these two new reviews of The Oregon Donor's new BBR release, "Somethings", hot off the presses:
"With a sound that evokes the loud, dissonant indie rock that dominated
the rainy area from Vancouver to Portland in the 1990s, you probably
wouldn't guess that they're hardly old enough to buy beer. With grace
and skill, their fingers maneuver all over the fretboard to create
expressive, smooth guitar riffs that keep the listener awake.Edwards
sings lyrics which take on an often storybook-like quality with a voice
patterned on the slightly uneven vocal style of, perhaps, a Doug Martsch
or an Isaac Brock. "Somethings" is proof that The Oregon Donor have the
skill and finesse they need to be worthy of the much larger playing
field that they have stepped into."
- NWBands.com
With Built To Spill-ish melodies I find myself both nostalgic and
impressed. Some might say they don't have their own sound, I can see
that but at the same time, what they do on this album should make up for
ANY comparisons.the album "Somethings" takes you through power pop, pure
indie and pop punk all in one song. I would describe this album as a
"cleaner" Modest Mouse, defiantly established and not sloppy.
- Kim Acrylic, Punk Globe
Remember, when you buy "Somethings" digitally, e-mail your receipt to us at contact {at} bbrecordings {dot} com and we'll hook you up with a free download
of their first record, "Cares".
Hugs,
- BBR
11/24/08 - THE LONELY FOREST
We'd like to take this time to officially welcome our newest signing,
The Lonely Forest, to the Burning Building family! We couldn't be more
excited. We won't give away too much now, but know this:
- 2nd full length, "We Sing The Body Electric!", will officially release
on April 21st
- Former winners of EMP's Sound Off! competition
- Recorded their first EP, Regicide, with the mighty Jack Endino
- This new record is amazing
"These guys came out of nowhere...and blew my mind!" -Jack Endino
"For such a huge sound you'd expect a symphony, but it's really made by
just three young men (two of who aren't yet of legal drinking age). The
piano is explosive-loud and nimble, and the driving force of each song.
The bass is fluid and strong; the drumming is sharp and precise." -
Megan Seling, The Stranger
"You guys are like if Star Wars, The Matrix, Dune, Donnie Darko and
Stargate had an orgy and pooped out a little baby. That's what you guys
are like man." - A buff guy guarding the door at Chop Suey
Hooray!
11/22/08 - DANIEL G HARMANN IN THE NEWS
Both the Seattle PI and the Stranger highlighted Daniel last week... take a look:
"What freezes you about Daniel G. Harmann's music is the
expanse... quietly loud expanse. It scans across a highway bridge at
night. Someone driving realizes the perfection of hands. Harmann's
songs transition and cut from quiet and clean to loud and distorted.
They're like fall: muted but loud, sad yet uplifting. The clean,
introspective sections of his sound long in a way that makes you long.
The louder, voluminous sections of his distorted songs drive in a way
that makes you want to drive. You'll see your hands on the steering
wheel and realize how perfectly they are designed. When Harmann and
his band (the Trouble Starts) get loud, it's more a movement to
volume, a use of light and dark they wield well." - Trent Moorman, Stranger LIne Out
As an added bonus, if you email your iTunes or Amazon receipt to contact
[at] bbrecordings.com, we'll give you a download of the band's entire
first record, "Cares", for FREE, remastered and sounding better than
ever! Two records for the price of one.
Words of Wisdom:
"Like many indie bands, the Oregon Donor takes its cues from seminal
acts like Modest Mouse, Sunny Day Real Estate and Built to Spill. And
who could blame them? But while many bands have tried to emulate such
sounds, the Oregon Donor have the rare ability to make it seem fresh and
original."
- The Weekly Volcano
"You could say Anacortes based indie-rockers The Oregon Donor situate
themselves squarely in the center of the musical territory cleared by
the likes of Northwest indie-godfathers Modest Mouse and Built to Spill,
and it would be true. But it would be extremely broad and reductive and
sort of like faulting a band for having been influenced by the Beatles
post-1964. Um, duh. The Oregon Donor make nuts and bolts indie-rock, but
so do a lot of other bands, and not many make albums as fun to listen
to..."
- What's Up Magazine
"With songs ranging from twee indie pop to nearly raucous pop punk, the
Oregon Donor is a bit of an anomaly. employing instruments as diverse as
flute and drum machine to create precious yet melancholy pop, a mellowed
out version of bands like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Xiu Xiu, and
Architecture in Helsinki. they (The Oregon Donor) play well-written
songs, highlighting angular guitar lines (Daniel Kessler of Interpol
fame, beware) and sweet, stand-out vocals. They're catchy without being
obnoxious, and they refuse to play for crowds who won't dance. With
their literate lyrics, memorable songs, and fan-oriented attitude, The
Oregon Donor will, without a doubt, make it into the hearts of Pacific
Northwest hipsters."
- Sena Kim
"The Oregon Donor plays slightly messy guitar pop, a la Pavement or
Guided by Voices (Which is likely an intentional style choice, as these
guys can really play). But The Oregon Donor also plays with a keen vocal
style that will remind you more of Sunny Day Real Estate. Though they
didn't get the exposure of being EMP Sound off Champions, they're worth
each minute of your time, each cent of your dollar."
-Jeff Echert, The Inlander

Here's a snippet:
"Like many indie bands, the Oregon Donor takes its cues from seminal

who could blame them? But while many bands have tried to emulate such
sounds, the Oregon Donor have the rare ability to make it seem fresh and

11/6/08 - RECORD OF THE MONTH
Every month, we're going to feature a record in the Burning Building
catalogue and offer it for cheap exclusively through the BBR Store!
This month, it's one of our first releases back in 2005 from Matthew
Shaw - "Convenience" EP. Here's what some people said about it:
"Following up his debut release, Matthew pushes his sound even further
to show he's one of the most talented musicians in town. Not a bad song
on here (Convenience)."
- John Richards - Music Director & DJ @ KEXP 90.3
"…Matthew Shaw plays simple, emotional electropop - ŕ la the Postal
Service, were they fronted by Bright Eyes. Shaw has taken
sensitive-guitar-strummer syndrome to the next level, lamenting over icy
synths and stuttering drum machines about issues that cloud both his
heart and his effects processors."
- Jennifer Maerz @ The Stranger
"...Shining up the glean on indie pop, Matthew Shaw pops and weaves his
way through masterful synth pop. His sound is so unbelievably versatile
and his knack for writing hooks and glitch riddled electronica is
uncanny. Vocally he's raw and stripped down which complements the large
breadth of the mix… Singer/songwriters this talented are few and far
between; Matthew Shaw is not only a genius singer/songwriter, he's
liable to take the whole damn she-bang with him. The only disappointment
is that this is a mere EP and twenty some minutes isn't enough to
satisfy your increasing hunger for indie pop this brilliant. Not owning
this EP (Convenience) is a sin."
- J-Sin @ Smother.net
"… the listener will hear layers of keyboard melodies and drum machine
burps and cool tiny riffs beneath the five songs on Matthew Shaw's
lively yet polished Convenience. Every melancholy but madly memorable
chorus is a keeper, especially on "Deadlines & Days Off" and
"Quicksand." More than that, the EP has songs written out with sharp
details about feeling creepy ("Today I have figured out that I am the
asshole that plagues your life" from the anthemic "Quicksand"), romantic
failure, selfishness, the whole dung-hill of "the hell that is other
people" (thanks Capricorn Jean-Paul!). Fans of Grandaddy will love this,
or anybody who likes delightfully-recorded bedroom tweak-pop."
- Chris Estey @ Threeimaginarygirls.com
For a measly $3, you can pick this up through our online store - HERE!
That's cheaper than iTunes, Amazon, or any other place you can get it

shop near you:
News in the To The Waves camp! A new review was just posted from
30music.com. Check it out:
"While so much art and media have found ways to get dumber, uglier, and
less interesting, bands like To the Waves sound just like bands like To
the Waves sounded in 1999. So there's no point in shredding this
album--and not only because it is a symbol of a genre's consistency.
There is no point in shredding this album because, unlike some of the
other albums of the genre that have crossed our desks, this one does
what it sets out to do, and does it admirably. The album opens with the
driving rock of "Koda," which sounds like Hot Water Music might have
sounded if the dude from Jimmy Eat World was their singer. it's nice to
hear a band with this much conviction and soul."
- 30 music

8/06/08 - TO THE WAVES PRESS
This just in... !
"...once you hear the band everything comes together. A natural next step
in the evolution of post punk, To the Waves' jagged and urgent brand of
rock is big enough to fill a room and sharp enough to draw blood. These
are two very good qualities in a rock band." - The Weekly Volcano
"The music is heavily influenced by Drive Like Jehu, Jawbox, and
Polecat... Jesse fox formerly of Polecat is playing his heavy-guitar
side signature sound...with more melodies and catchy choruses"
- Punk Globe

Also, here are a couple early reviews for Speaker Speaker's upcoming release "Call it Off" due out in February:
"… The band (Speaker Speaker) blends the perfect mixture of all things that make up edgier side of Seattle music, making "Call It Off" sound like Nirvana and The Posies are having a battle of the bands inside your stereo… Simply put, this is a must buy for anyone hoping to latch on to Seattle's next big thing before they explode." - Seattle PI
"Speaker Speaker has one speed, and that's full throttle… pumping out songs that make you want to sing-along as you push forward through the crowd. Songs that make you pump your fist and forget about your job, your age and your life for even just two-minutes…" - Hero Hill
